There was a wonderful sense of magic in the air as Burton Hathow celebrated World Book Day 2026 with a special fairy tale theme, with activities taking place in our forest setting.

The day began with our much-anticipated costume parade, and it was fantastic to see so many different characters brought to life. Princesses, woodland creatures, magical beings and heroes from much-loved stories filled the playground. The creativity and enthusiasm from the children was wonderful to see, and it set the perfect tone for the day ahead.

After the parade, the whole school headed into the forest where a range of fairy tale-inspired activities awaited. The woodland setting provided the perfect backdrop for a day of storytelling, imagination and hands-on experiences.

In the outdoor classroom, children created their own magical wands with Mrs Ogston and Miss Henley, carefully crafting unique designs ready for any fairy tale adventure.

Inside the yurt, the story of the gingerbread man came to life as children worked with Mrs Payne and Mrs Smith to bake delicious gingerbread.

Nearby, the comforting smell of smoke and toasted treats filled the air as pupils gathered around the fire with Mr Cox and Mr Oldfield to enjoy toasting together in the forest.

Meanwhile, in the trees, pupils used clay to create wonderful woodland faces with Mrs Burch, turning the forest itself into a magical gallery.

At another station, children worked with Mrs Steeple to create their own bows and arrows, inspired by legendary characters from fairy tales and folklore.

Break time and lunch were also enjoyed outdoors, allowing everyone to make the most of the beautiful surroundings and the special atmosphere of the day.

The celebrations concluded with a truly memorable moment as the school gathered around the campfire for songs led by Mr Nowell. It was lovely to welcome some parents who joined us for this final part of the day. Afterwards, the children proudly showed their families around the forest, sharing the activities they had taken part in and the creations they had made.

It was a joyful celebration of books, stories and imagination! World Book Day at Burton Hathow, sprinkled with a little BH magic. ✨📚
