As we draw the first half of term to a close, we’ve been blown away by the creativity, curiosity, and community spirit shining through at Burton Hathow!
Across the school, children have been proudly sharing their homework projects – a true celebration of imagination and effort. From model volcanoes in Year 3 to carefully researched presentations and beautifully crafted displays, it’s been inspiring to see such enthusiasm for learning beyond the classroom. We can’t wait to showcase even more of these during our Homework Celebration Assembly on the Wednesday when we return.

In Forest School, pupils have been putting their creative skills to the test by crafting pumpkins using wool and sticks, designing and making safety signs, and helping to create new exploration spaces for all to enjoy.

We were also treated to an engaging and informative session from Mr Hardcastle, who shared his expert knowledge about insects—complete with a fascinating opportunity to explore a large wasp nest that had been brought into school. The children were captivated by its intricate structure and enjoyed learning all about how wasps create and use their nests in nature.

This half term also saw our Harvest Festival, which was filled with warmth and generosity. We were visited by Reverend Robbie from St Peter’s in Eastgate Church for service in which our choirs performed their Harvest songs. The Burton Hathow community came together with an incredible collection of donations, which our Year 6 pupils proudly delivered to the community larder.

Looking ahead to November, children have been busy creating poppies for the Remembrance Day Poppy Cascade at Saxilby Church—a touching way to contribute to the wider community.

Meanwhile, our budding BH Engineers have been designing and testing incredible structures, including a particularly impressive standing wheel of crisps!

We rounded off the half term in true Burton Hathow style with our Half Term Concert, celebrating musical talent across the school. From the orchestra’s brilliant rendition of Coldplay to our choirs performing some of our favourite Harvest songs, it was a joyful and uplifting end to a fantastic few weeks of learning and creativity. We also got to see the first performance of our Year 2 and 3 recorder group as well as a number of other instrumental soloists and vocalists. I am already looking forward to the next one!
Well done to everyone for such a wonderful half term—rest well, and we look forward to seeing you all after the break!
