We have had a super start to the new academic year, and both Year 1 and Year 2 children have settled really well into their new classrooms and school routines. Children have worked hard on their phonics and handwriting and we are really very proud of how they embraced their learning both at school and at home.

In Literacy we have been exploring ‘Feelings’ and using three wonderful texts ‘Rabbityness’,‘The Suitcase’ and ‘The Visitor’ have made predictions and responded to characters’ feelings. They have identified sentence types and learnt how to extend sentences using conjunctions. They completed this unit of work by creating a character and writing their very own story about a child starting a new school, putting themselves in someone elses shoes, something we encourage very much at BH. After half term we will be moving on to look at Poetry and Letter Writing.

In Maths we have looked at Place Value, number bonds, money, telling the time and how to measure things. We will be continuing to build on this when we come back after half term.

Our Topic this term is ‘Inside and Outside’ and we have loved learning all about the History of Nursing, and how to keep our bodies healthy. We have been incredibly lucky to have visitors in to school to talk to children from the medical profession, which has really brought learning to life. Huge thanks to Nurse McCarthy, Nurse Martin and Professor Crisp for such fascinating and engaging presentations. The children (and staff) absolutely loved having you come in to see us.

We would like to take the opportunity to say thank you to all our wonderful parents for their continued support this term, and can’t wait to see the children after half term (our favourite time of the year!).

Have a lovely holiday
