Burton Hathow painted swallows in the first week back in school after lockdown. We discussed the concept of how art can convey a meaning. This collaborative project making a parallel with the return of the migrating swallows and the return of the children to school.

In contrast to the imaginary Swallow paintings of the first week, Years 1, 2, 3 and 4 spent two weeks working on observational painting. The study was of red tulips on a large scale. We looked at the artist Dame Elizabeth Blackadder RA and took inspiration from her artwork for wavy stems and leaves, lots of fantastic colour mixing too!
