It has been another exciting and enriching week across the school, with pupils engaging in a wide range of memorable learning experiences.
Year 1 and Year 3 pupils took part in an important fire pit safety session, learning how to behave responsibly and safely around open fires. They demonstrated excellent listening skills and maturity, before having the opportunity to test out our new outdoor cooking equipment. The children thoroughly enjoyed the practical experience, combining safety awareness with hands-on learning in the great outdoors.
Upper School pupils have also been busy working hard in our outdoor spaces. They took on the important task of removing tree guards from established trees. The activity required excellent teamwork, careful use of tools and a strong sense of responsibility, with pupils supporting one another and working safely throughout. It was a valuable hands-on experience that reinforced practical skills, cooperation and respect for our environment.
Year 4 were thrilled to connect with our Chair of the Board, Mr Robinson, who is currently undertaking an incredible transatlantic sailing challenge from the Canary Islands to St Lucia. As part of this unique opportunity, pupils recorded thoughtful questions for Mr Robinson, who kindly shared insights into his journey, the challenges he has faced, and the many lessons he has learned along the way. The experience brought geography, resilience and real-world learning vividly to life.
Year 1 pupils also embraced an exciting house-building challenge, inspired by the story of The Three Little Pigs. Working collaboratively, they designed and built houses using a range of materials to see whether their structures could withstand the force of the Big Bad Wolf. The activity encouraged problem-solving, teamwork and creativity, with pupils proudly testing and improving their designs.
Our U9 netball team also took to the court against Ranby this week. Pupils delivered wonderful performances, demonstrating excellent teamwork, determination and sportsmanship throughout the match. Their hard work paid off as they secured a well-deserved draw, reflecting the progress they continue to make in training and competition.
Meanwhile, Year 2 pupils showed fantastic curiosity and enthusiasm during their English lessons. While developing their phonics learning, the children became fascinated by words and their meanings, leading them to explore dictionary skills in greater depth. They were eager to discover new vocabulary and understand how dictionaries can help expand language skills — so much so that some pupils even said they would like a dictionary for their birthday!
It has been a week full of curiosity, adventure and practical learning, and we are very proud of the enthusiasm and engagement shown by all our pupils.
