This year’s End of Year Prize Giving was held in the beautiful surroundings of St Peter in Eastgate Church, with the kind support of Reverend Robbie. It was a truly uplifting occasion, celebrating the achievements and character of our pupils across all areas of school life.

Children were recognised not only for academic excellence in a wide range of subjects, but also for qualities that lie at the heart of our school values – including kindness, perseverance, and wider contributions to school life. Among the highlights was the presentation of a number of special awards.

We were especially proud to introduce a new award this year – The Bowden Resilience Award – in honour of our much-loved outgoing staff member, Mrs Bowden. This magnificent trophy, carved from wood sourced from our very own forest school area – which Mrs Bowden was instrumental in developing – was created by Mr Halse and the children of Burton Hathow. It will serve as a lasting tribute to her unwavering spirit and dedication. It is with both sadness and deep gratitude that we bid her farewell as she moves on to pastures new. Many Burton Hathow alumni also returned to join the celebration, a true testament to the lasting impact Mrs Bowden has had on the school community.

One of the most poignant moments of the day came from our Year 6 leavers, who delivered their traditional end-of-year speeches – a long-standing Burton Hathow tradition. Each pupil took to the front to share their memories, reflections, and gratitude for their time at the school. Their words were heartfelt and sincere, capturing the friendships, adventures, and personal growth they had experienced during their time with us. There was not a dry eye in the house, as their voices filled the church with emotion and pride. It was a powerful reminder of the deep bonds and sense of belonging that define our school community.

Music played a central role in the celebration, thanks to the incredible talent and direction of Mr Nowell and his band – a wonderful ensemble made up of Burton Hathow community members, including Mrs Payne and Mrs Nowell. Their performances brought energy and heart to the event. The Upper School Choir delivered a stirring rendition of Zadok the Priest, while the Lower School performed a charming version of Lord, Make Me a Mountain. As a whole school community, we also came together to sing some of our much-loved favourites, including our very own school song, In a Wood by a Lake.

It was a pleasure to honour the achievements of our pupils, celebrate everything that makes Burton Hathow such a special place, and say goodbye to those moving on – including our wonderful Year 6 leavers, who have each made a lasting mark on our community.

The event concluded with a relaxed picnic in the church grounds, where families, pupils, and staff gathered to enjoy the sunshine and one another’s company – a fitting end to a day full of pride, reflection, and celebration.
