Year 2 have been incredibly busy recently, with a wide range of exciting learning opportunities across the curriculum.
In Art, the children carefully harvested wildflowers from around our beautiful school grounds and used only pencils to create detailed observational drawings. They showed great patience and attention to detail, producing some stunning pieces of work inspired by the natural world around them.
Meanwhile, in Dance, the children worked together to create a fantastic performance. A key focus was learning to move in unison, requiring teamwork, concentration and timing. There was plenty of laughter along the way, and the children thoroughly enjoyed developing their routines together.
Inspired by Sir David Attenborough’s birthday and the song What a Wonderful World, Year 2 also explored the beauty of the world around them through poetry. Spending time outdoors, they observed their surroundings and used similes and comparisons to create vivid imagery. Their writing included wonderful lines such as, “I see a tree as tall as horses,” “The cobwebs are as sticky as honey,” and “The daisies in the fields are like crumbs waiting to be eaten.” The children then combined their ideas to create a beautiful class poem celebrating the wonders of nature.
To add to the excitement, Year 2 also discovered which form they will be joining next year during our much-anticipated Sorting Hat Ceremony. There was a real buzz of anticipation as the children found out where their next Burton Hathow adventure will begin.
What a fantastic few weeks of creativity, collaboration and celebration for Year 2!
