Last week was a vibrant celebration of immersive learning in action, as our students embarked on unforgettable experiences that brought their learning to life.
Year 2 had a wonderful trip to the cathedral last week. They began with a guided tour, where they explored many of the cathedral’s fascinating features – and even managed to spot the elusive Lincoln Imp! The children then learned about the process of baptism at the cathedral’s font, taking on different roles to deepen their understanding. In the afternoon, they created their own stained glass windows inspired by the beautiful designs they had seen. To top it all off, they were lucky enough to hear the choir sing and the majestic organ being played which was a truly memorable experience.

Reception enjoyed a specialist art lesson with Mrs Burch, where they carefully drew flag irises picked from around our school lake. They showed great care and attention to detail in their work and got a lovely taste of the specialist art lessons they’ll enjoy regularly when they move into Year 1. We’re so proud of their beautiful creations that we’ve proudly displayed them in our school hall.

Our BH Engineers have been hard at work, harnessing wind power to build mechanisms that lift objects. By combining their scientific knowledge with their design and technology skills, they explored how energy can be transferred and used effectively. Through this hands-on learning, we’re helping to spark their problem-solving abilities and inspiring them to be the innovators of the future.
In maths, Year 2 visited the school kitchen to explore fractions in a real-life context. Mrs Gayle was busy preparing pizzas for lunch, and the children worked out how many pizzas and slices would be needed to feed everyone. Meanwhile, Year 5 had great fun investigating the properties of a wide range of 3D shapes. We know that practical, hands-on maths is a brilliant way to engage children and help them grasp new concepts.

Reception and Butterflies also had their sports day last week. The children showed fantastic confidence and enthusiasm, giving 100% in every race. They listened carefully to instructions and demonstrated how much they’ve learned this term. The day ended with some very competitive parents’ races – it’s always a joy to see the whole school community getting involved and having fun together.
We ended the week with our half-term concert, which showcased a wonderful range of musical talent from across the school. Highlights included an upbeat orchestral version of Smooth, led brilliantly by Poppy on vocals, and a fantastic performance of Spread a Little Happiness by the Lower School Choir. Reception and Butterflies confidently performed Magic Penny, and we were treated to solo instrumental performances from Betsi on the flute, Toby and Arthur on piano, Oliver on clarinet, and Fred on recorder.

We were also thrilled to get a sneak peek of songs from our upcoming Upper School production of The Lady and the Mouse, written by our very own Mr Nowell. The performance will take place at The Blue Room at The Lawn on Tuesday 24th June – we can’t wait for you to see it.
Following the concert, we kept the energy high with our vibrant Colour Run, a fantastic fundraising event organised by our dedicated OWLs team. With colourful powder flying and smiles all around, every participant – children, parents and staff – had an amazing time. It was a brilliant way to bring everyone together for a great cause and celebrate the end of a busy and joyful half term.
As we head into our final half-term of the year, we have a packed calendar of events and lots of exciting learning still to come. We’re so looking forward to sharing every step of the journey with you!
